Walker River Resort of Nevada, Inc. owns and operates the Walker River Resort in beautiful Smith Valley. Founded by Stan and Leia Simmons in 1983, the Resort now comprises a lush oasis surrounded by BLM. With over a 1000 planted trees and numerous lawns, guests of the Resort enjoy the serenity and beauty of this unique location on the West Walker River. This year, visitors included international guests from as far away as England, France and the Netherlands. Local guests from the Northern Nevada region enjoy the numerous activities and facilities. Many of the Resort guests arrive in their RVs or they stay in the deluxe cottages overlooking the West Walker River. Both youngsters and oldtimers alike have fun at the poolside barbeques, friendly potlucks and ice cream socials held throughout each season. Good friends and new acquaintances can enjoy a round of horseshoes, volleyball or fly fishing in the river. Children participate in marshmallow roasts at the old chuck wagon or catch their first fish in the stocked ponds at the Resort.
Sportsmen participate at the Resort’s Sporting Clays Shooting Course, which is gaining recognition as one Western Nevada’s premier shooting courses. This September the Resort will again sponsor the EMT benefit shoot, which raises money for the Smith Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
The Resort enjoys hosting many weddings, picnics, and reunions held at the Hudson House facility on the banks of the River. This year, the Pizen Switch Round-up Reunion was hosted at this location along with many other events. Local guests and distant travelers are always welcome at this western-style Resort.
