We want to wish you the warmest Holiday Greetings as
we watch 2017 fade into the past and look forward to another outstanding
year at Walker River Resort. We greatly appreciate your continued support.
We also want to welcome the new guests who visited the Resort this past year
for the first time.
The Resort hosted well over 7500 guests this year
which may have set a record. But, the best news is that the improvements to
the electrical system and the water system resulted in an excellent service
year. We had no water outages and only one or two power issues.
Unfortunately, one of the power problems (NV Energy’s undersized
transformer) occurred over the 4th of July weekend. The company
has now supplied the Resort with a 500 KW transformer which is large enough
to power up a large mine. After that improvement, we had consistent power.
We had a number of fun events occur throughout the
year. Over the two major holidays (Memorial Day and Labor Day) our guests
had great fun participating in the horseshoe and golf tournaments. Prizes
were awarded and the winner’s names go up on the plaques in the lounge. We
want to thank the organizers of the tournaments and greatly appreciate their
taking care of the awesome plaques since 2002! Also this year, our Wednesday
and Thursday night potlucks got great attendance in the fall months with
glorious weather and high occupancy.
During the spring and summer months, the Resort
experienced some major flooding due to the enormous and record breaking
snowfall in the Sierras over the proceeding winter. Fortunately, there was
no significant damage. The main reason we faired so much better this time
(as compared to 1997) was because of the giant flood barriers purchased in
May. These water bladders were over 3 feet high and 7 feet wide. They
protected the owner’s home and the Hudson House. The barriers were far more
effective than sand bags and we were so grateful to have such a good
Due to the high river flows, our guests enjoyed a
long season of river float trips along with excellent trout fishing in the
late summer and fall. The majority of our guests come with ATV’s and the
riding in the surrounding mountains and desert terrain was thrilling. There
are a lot of videos on You Tube which show some of the fun times. You’ll
also want to visit our Facebook page for notifications and news.
The Sporting Clays courses were extremely busy this
year. The addition of 40 new sporting clay traps has greatly improved the
reliability of the throwers and improved the target presentations. In
addition to these improvements, the bathhouse is receiving a remodel and so
far it’s looking great.
We hope to see you all when we re-open on April 1st,
2018! We are open Thursdays thru Sundays throughout the winter months so be
sure to call for your reservations or with any questions.
We hope you are busy planning your trips to Walker River Resort in 2017. We are looking forward to
the Resort’s 35th season.
This past year, we were able to accomplish a lot of
improvements to the facilities. Every building was newly painted, including
the lounge/store/swimming pool complex and all the cottages. The painters
did a great job and everybody appreciated the upgraded appearances.
Additionally, the swimming pool decking was removed in its entirety, along
with the coping stones and tile. A new concrete deck was installed and the
new coping stones and tile. The pool water stayed crystal clear all summer
long and all the guests appreciated the great job the maintenance crew
performed on a daily basis. Also, two deep well pumps were replaced and the
task of completing a new well set-up progressed with a new pump house and
new power being run to the wellhead. This well will provide both backup
water and possibly become the Resort’s main permitted source.
Besides improvements and constant maintenance, the
Resort provided a lot of fun activities for our guests throughout the
season. A lot of guests like to shoot sporting clays and we hosted several
fun day shoots and registered shoots. We have a full schedule of sporting
clay events for 2017 and the upcoming schedule is available on this website
Resort guests also enjoyed festive potluck parties
every Thursday night. We plan to continue this fun happening in the lounge
for 2017. The lounge’s gaming entertainment was definitely improved in 2016
with the introduction of Golden Gaming as the Resort’s partner. We now have
a Buffalo slot, Lobster Mania and IGT Game King’s. All the machines are
kept up to date and in excellent working condition.
Over the three major holiday weekends, the Resort was
completely full. Everybody brought side by sides, quads and dirt bikes.
Riders visited the ghost towns of Pine Grove and Rockland. Many guests went
to Bodie, CA, the California State Park Ghost Town. Over the 4th
of July, the fuses in the Resort’s main transformer, which is owned by
NVEnergy blew out. This resulted in no power for approximately 5 hours.
The good thing was everybody came into the lounge and instead of
complaining, all the guests joined in singing several songs including the
Star Spangled Banner. What a great way to turn misfortune into fortune!
NVEnergy has promised to replace the old transformer before April of 2017.
Over the Nevada Day weekend (Halloween) the Resort was
full again. There was a full schedule of activities including a chili
cook-off, a costume party and a fun day shoot. Prizes and monetary gifts
were won by the best in each of the activities. Even though it was late
October, the weather cooperated and it turned out to be a very fun weekend.
Thank you all for an outstanding 2016 season.
As you can see from the above, the Resort is a very
busy place. We hope 2017 is a great year for one and all!
hope you are enjoying a wonderful spring. We will be hosting many activities
throughout 2016 from April to October. We are planning numerous sporting
clays shoots, ice cream socials, and potlucks. ATV riding is fabulous this
Spring with lots of flowers and no dust! We hope you will enjoy many
fun-filled weekends throughout the 2016 season. The RV Park and Cottages are
very busy as we opened April 1st. The weather is perfect. We are
all looking forward to a great Memorial Day weekend, with activities such as
Ice Cream Social, Golf, Horseshoe and Mexican Train Tournaments. Please see
schedule above. There will
be a lot of ATV riding, horseshoes, desert golf and river floating too! We
are expecting a good water year for the West Walker River which will allow
for rafting, swimming and float trips to Wilson Canyon (5 miles).
Walker River Resort is very fortunate to have many guests planning to visit
this year. Many visitors look forward to the Thursday night potlucks which
encourage a different food theme for each get together. Memorial Day
bookings are hard to get but, please keep in mind that there are many
beautiful weekends available for your reservations.
We really appreciate your
continued support of Walker River Resort by visiting often. Together, over
the years, we have successfully built an outstanding RV resort. In fact,
this will be the Resort’s 34th season! You can check-out all the

The official summer season is
underway at Walker River Resort. We celebrated a glorious Memorial Day
weekend at the start! Everybody enjoyed the Ant Hill Golf tournament,
Horseshoe Challenge, Dollar Happy Hour, Ice Cream Social and the warm
camaraderie of getting together in the great scenic outdoors of Western
Nevada. The Resort is virtually full for next year’s holiday (2015) and we
greatly appreciate our guest’s support.
On a daily basis, tubers,
rafters and even the occasional paddleboard navigate the West Walker River
en route to Wilson Canyon. The canyon provides a perfect “get-out” location
at the rest area on Highway 208. Additionally, Wilson Canyon Trailhead is
just a short walk from the rest area. A three mile walking trail winds
through the rocky gorge with spectacular vistas of unique geologic
formations. Beautiful interpretative signs mark the way with pertinent
information on the flora, fauna and geology. Read more about the
Wilson Canyon Trail here.
Summer evenings bring the
smells and sounds of campers enjoying the longest days of the year.
Family’s barbeque, roast marshmallows, play outdoor games and tell tall
tales around their campfires. On the weekends, the Resort swimming pool and
hot tub stay open until 10:00pm. This gives guests a great opportunity to
burn off any excess energy.
ATV riding is in full swing!
Every few minutes ATV riders are leaving the Resort for a day filled with
adventure. Some riders travel via Hwy 208 to the hill climbs in Wilson
Canyon or travel either north to the ghost town of Ludwig or south to the
ghost towns of Pine Grove and Rocklin. You may view one family’s
video exploration by clicking here.
The White and Green Sporting
Clay Courses are being heavily used by both amateur shooters and
professional sporting clay shooters. The 27 stations provide all kinds of
October starts off with a fun
event featuring the Craig Crow Band (Saturday,
October 4, 2014) and a Nevada styled Octoberfest! We'll be roasting
sausages, toasting hoagie rolls, enjoying German beers and celebrating the
beginning of Autumn.
Also, in October, the Resort will hold its
third 100 target NSCA registered shoot to help celebrate Nevada Day and
Halloween. On November 1st, 2014, the NEW "Trippin'
King Snakes" will perform live in the

you are enjoying the start of a wonderful year. The Resort hosted many
activities throughout 2014 from April to October. We held numerous sporting
clays shoots, a chili cook-off, live music performances by bands: Big Bad
Wolf and Sierra Express. Everyone enjoyed a fun Halloween party, complete
with costumes. We also enjoyed the many fun-filled weekends swimming, ATV
riding, BBQ’s and all kinds of fun! Now we are preparing for the start of a
fabulous camping season!
winter weather is practically non-existent in Smith Valley. The water to the
RV Park and other facilities may be turned on a month early! We still
have some freezing night time temperatures but no snow (unlike our neighbors
in the Northeast).
tastings have continued throughout the winter months on the third Wednesday
of each month. The Resort lounge will be hosting “Women’s ‘Wine’ing
Wednesdays” all through 2014! We will continue to sample the wines of a new
region every month. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we will be welcoming
men for the February wine tasting of dessert wines and delicious desserts on
River Resort is very fortunate to always enjoy a very busy hosting season.
Our guests enjoy the Thursday night potlucks which encourage a different
food theme for each get together. Last year, the Resort hosted award winning
storyteller and author, John Tyson, on Saturday of the 4th of July weekend.
His presentation of western tales and music was enjoyed by all. We are
planning our schedule for 2014, so feel free to give your suggestions.
year, Joseph Walker Day was held on August 3. We featured musical
entertainment by Fiddlin’ Pete Watercott and Richard Elloyan. There were
craft booths, food booths, a riverside bar and old time wagons. The
highlight of the day was the Tomahawk Throw. Anyone could try their hand at
this deceptively difficult activity. Many attendees to Joseph Walker Day
came in period dress!
